"Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name". (Matthew 6:9(b))
What does it mean Father that your name is "hallowed". We take these words and we pray this prayer yet, Lord, I do not even know what it is I pray. I do not want my words to be empty prayers I want to know you and to understand you that I might speak with meaning each word that I call out to you. Teach me your ways O God.
- Hallowed (hagiazo) = To regard and venerate as holy, to hallow. The word "hagiazo" as a verb means "to sanctify" when its object is something that is filthy or common, this can only be accomplished by separation or withdrawal. It also refers to the withdrawal from fellowship with the world and selfishness by gaining fellowship with God.
- Name (onama) = Name, title, character, reputation, person, emphatic, the name of God, of the Lord, of Christ, as the metonymic expression for God Himself, Christ Himself, in ALL their being, their attributes, their relations, their manifestation. Specifically, of God where His name is said to be hallowed, revealed, invoked, honoured.
Lord you are hallowed - you are purity and you are holiness - you are distinctly different than man, you are distinctly different than your creation. You are set apart by your holiness everything, everyone, which you touch by your holiness are cleansed and made clean by the very nature of your holiness. Every part of your being Lord is represented in your name. Your name contains and proclaims your very existence. Your name defines your character and your very nature. Your name is displayed in your relationship with your creation, in your involvement, in your caring, in your protection, in your guidance, in your communication to us. Your name is made present in your righteous acts and your righteous deeds. Your name is made evident through your mercy. Your name is made evident by all of creation. Your name - O God - is Holy!
By your very holy name you cleanse and you purifiy - you set us apart that in your hallowedness we gain you. You set us apart that in Your Name we are covered in your righteousness. You set us apart that in Your Hallowed Name you are revealed through us. You set us apart that in Your Hallowed Name others may be sanctified. You set us apart that in Your Hallowed Name your character is made known. You set us apart that in Your Hallowed Name we are covered, and called, by You. You set us apart that in Your Hallowed Name your power, your works, your wonders may be made known.
Cover me, Lord, in the Holiness of Your name that I might be found in you. Cover me, Lord, in the Holiness of Your Name that I may be the representation of your holiness. Lord - it is too much for me to imagine, to behold all which this carries, for outside of you, outside of your name, I know I can do nothing. Cover me.
Father in heaven, in that separate and holy place, I desire to know you, to know you and to see you in your heavenly dwelling place where all that enters is holy and sanctified unto you, for you and through you, in your son Jesus, I want to know the fullness of your name, of your character and your reputation. To know the fullness of who you are; that I would esteem you, uphold you and your name as holy - sanctified. To have this knowledge held separate from the world and to have it uplifted to and from your heavenly dwelling place - that I may know you and be known by you.
