What is prophecy?

Prophecy is speaking the inspired word of God.  It is a direct revelation of the Spirit of God which reveals His Mind, His Heart and His Will for His purposes here on earth.  Prophecy exists to bring glory to God and to point people to Him in the person of Jesus Christ.  Prophecy reveals the life of Christ to you and just as Jesus in His life brought glory to His Father, true prophecy is one which will cause you to do the same.  It will lead people out of spiritual darkness into the light and the glory of God.  Prophecy may be specific to an individual, to a church or even to a nation however it is always for the purpose of revealing God and His intentions.  Prophecy directly aligns with the word of God - that is the truth of God.  Prophecy illuminates - brings or sheds light on, the truth of the word of God into the spirit of man.  Prophecy reveals mysteries and knowledge of the Father of Creation.  True prophecy NEVER twists or distorts the word of God, it doesn't have to because it is true.  It provides a clear truth - one which is not murky or unclear, one which does not leave the mind of man in a place of wrestling in order to "figure it out".  True prophecy penetrates deeply into the spirit of man to bring about the revelation and the truth of God.  Once this happens in the spirit, the mind is then transformed.  As this transformation occurs in the heart and mind of man, there may be various beliefs and practices that will be broken.  Just as a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly breaks through the cocoon that has kept it bound so must we break off old ways of thinking in order to take on the mind of Christ.  Man's responsibility in receiving prophecy is to weigh and test the spirit to determine truth, if truth bears witness the responsibility becomes one of faith and obedience.  Footstool Ministries (Canada) does not desire to become known as a "prophetic" ministry.  There is already, within the context of the church, a propogation of this type of ministry along with a confluence of words, dreams and visions that it has becoming overwhelming for most.   Unfortunately some of the containers for the prophetic have such a mixture of different waters that a clear word becomes difficult to disseminate, we will attempt to share with you revelation which ultimately will point you towards Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  With the advent of heightened spiritual activity and revelation many often feel 'out of line' when they are hearing, seeing or sensing something which is different than what seems to be the popular or 'current' word - again some of the revelation posted here may encourage you.  We know and recognize the scriptures of all the streams coming together on the mountain of our God, we also know and recognize that every stream is not from the same source.  It is our intention to encourage the seeking of prophetic revelation as a true, clear word will bring you hope, joy, strength and understanding of the God that we serve.  We encourage you to sift carefully through the waters around you.  It is the desire of Footstool Ministries (Canada) to make God known and to see the body of Christ grow into maturity as we all come together under one head, which is Christ!  We also desire to share knowledge and truth which he provides to us so we may all gain strength, (. . .
